The maximum art size that Bonfire can print is 11.5 inches wide by 14 inches long (11.5 inches by 11.5 inches on Pullover Hoodies). These dimensions match the size and proportion of the "printable area" shown in our design tool with the default product selection. Depending on which products you select, your printable area may be smaller than this — more on that below.
All apparel displayed in the design tool is shown in size Large. This consistency ensures that artwork can be accurately viewed and compared with the same proportions during the design process, and it means artwork is rendered on size Large products in the design tool and on campaign pages.
Understanding the printable area
The printable area is the outlined region you see in the design tool. It's set automatically based on the products you've selected, and it can't be moved, resized, or repositioned manually.
We can only print inside the printable area that's displayed. We aren't able to print anywhere outside of it, including on sleeves.
If any part of your design extends past the boundary, the printable area outline will turn red. You should adjust your design so that everything sits inside the outline.
How product selection affects the printable area
The printable area is constrained to the largest area that works across every product style you've selected. If one style has a smaller printable area than the others, all of your products will use that smaller area.
Some products, like zip hoodies and other apparel with a closure in the center front, can constrain the printable area to the left chest rather than across the full front. If your campaign or custom order includes one of these types of products alongside standard shirts — which have a much larger printable area on their own — the printable area for all items will be constrained to the left chest.
This applies to other product groups with multiple styles too, such as hats and tote bags.
If your printable area looks smaller than you expected, check your product selection. Removing the most restrictive style will open the area back up, or you can create a separate campaign or custom order for that product if you wish.
How your design is printed
Our printers refer to the placement and size of your artwork relative to the apparel size when printing your items, so your design is scaled to suit each product size.
However, some printing methods that we utilize do not allow a design to be scaled to each product size. Keep in mind that designs may have slight sizing variations between batches.
