Benefiting a verified nonprofit
If you’re looking to fundraise for an organization but are unsure of how to make sure the proceeds are distributed properly, Bonfire can help! If you're looking to donate all of your campaign proceeds to an organization, set up a Giving campaign. You can also choose to donate a percentage of your profits to a nonprofit.
Bonfire takes care of sending the proceeds to the organization you choose without any action required on your part.
Create a Giving campaign
Giving campaigns allow you to fundraise for an organization by donating 100% of your proceeds to an eligible nonprofit.
Select "Fundraise" on the third step of the campaign setup
Select that you want your payout to be sent to the organization
Search for the organization by name or EIN in the search bar that appears
From the results, select the organization you wish to connect with and then click "Connect"
Your campaign is now connected to the organization, and payouts will be sent to them. Giving campaigns will also receive other perks, such as reduced donation fees.
For some organizations, you can further connect your campaign to an event and even a team or fundraising individual.
A third-party service provider will send and manage the payout for donation processing. To view the status of your Giving campaign’s payouts for an organization, navigate to the Payouts tab in your dashboard and select “For a cause.”
Donate a percentage of your profits
This feature is currently in beta testing and not yet available to all users.
Make money and donate a percentage of your profits to a cause you care about! To do so, follow these steps while setting up your campaign:
On step 3 of campaign setup, select the option "Make Money"
Toggle on the option to "Donate some of the profits to a nonprofit"
In the search bar that appears, search for the organization by name or EIN
Select the organization you wish to benefit, then click "Connect"
Finally, choose the percentage of your profits that you wish to donate (between 1-99%)
Once a successful batch ends, you can collect your payout. Bonfire works with a third-party service provider that will send and manage the payout for donation processing.
Benefiting other organizations or individuals
For all other types of beneficiaries, the best way to send a payout is to simply input the PayPal account email address associated with the organization receiving the funds when a payout is available to collect. If you are unable to procure that information, you can still create a fundraising campaign on their behalf and donate the funds yourself. Bonfire will send you the profits raised from your campaign, and you will then be responsible for connecting with the organization (or individual) to transfer any profits raised.
Bonfire is required to file a 1099 form with the IRS for all the profits raised and paid to beneficiaries who made at least $600 during the calendar year. If you opt to donate to the organization yourself, we strongly suggest you request a donor receipt for tax purposes.
You can request your payout by going to the Payouts tab in your dashboard. After a successful batch has ended, requested payouts are sent. PayPal processes payouts in 1-2 business days. Learn more about how payouts work here.
